Billy’s Balloon / Rejected & Meaning of Life (USA 1995-05) Don Hertzfeldt (geb. am 1. August 1976) ist ein amerikanischer Cartoonist und Produzent von Zeichentrickkurzfilmen. Protagonisten seiner Filme sind sehr minimalistische und dadaistisch anmutende Strichmännchen, die mit Slapstick und schwarzem Humor oft existentialistische Handlungen durch- und erleben. Hertzfeldt erstellt seine Filme alle in traditioneller Zeichentricktechnik ohne Computer in Stop-Motion Technik, arbeitet dabei aber auch mit Mehrfachbelichtungen und experimenteller Photographie. Hertzfeldt ist Absolvent der University of California in Santa Barbara. Hertzfeldt is one of few independent filmmakers who could be considered a true auteur. It is not unusual for him to single-handedly write, direct, produce, animate, photograph, edit, record and mix sound, and/or compose music for one of his films, at times requiring years to complete a single short. The animation alone for one of his films may often require tens of thousands of drawings.
