RAFTING TO BOMBAY kombiniert parallele Geschichten der Vergangenheit und der Gegenwart. Der damals 5 Jahre alte Nahum und seine Mutter verliessen Polen, reisten mit dem Zug durch Europa und segelten auf einem Floss dem Fluss Tigris entlang, bis sie das zauberhafte Land der Affen, Elefanten und Rajas erreichten. Die Indien-Erfahrung, deren sich das Kind als wundervolle Fantasie erinnert, war in Wahrheit die Geschichte einer schauderhaften Flucht. Zwanzig Jahre zuvor filmte der Regisseur Erez Laufer seine Grossmutter kurz bevor sie verstarb. Nun, im Hotel in Bombay festsitzend, hört sich Nahum die Sicht der Grossmutter an. Dies ist eine Geschichte dreier Generationen: Grossmutter, Sohn und Enkel erzählen eine Geschichte. Im einen Moment ist es ein romantischer Traum voller Hoffnung und Versprechung, im anderen Moment verwandelt sie sich in die grausame Realität der Vergangenheit und der Gegenwart.

The Laufer family travels to Bombay to tell the story of the father, Nahum, and his mother, who found refuge in the city after they escaped from the Nazis. As the family arrives in Bombay, they find themselves in the midst of the November 2008 terror attacks. All their plans are disrupted....
RAFTING TO BOMBAY combines parallel stories of past and present. The then five-year-old Nahum and his mother left Poland, traveled by train across Europe, and sailed on a raft along the Tigris River till they reached the enchanting India of monkeys, elephants, and Rajas. But the Indian Experience, remembered by the kid as a wonderful fantasy, was in fact a completely different story of a shivering escape. Twenty years ago, director Erez Laufer filmed his grandmother just before she passed away. Now, stuck in the hotel in Bombay, Nahum listens to his mother's point of view. This is a tale of three generations: grandmother, son, and grandson telling one story. At one moment, it's a romantic dream full of hope and promise, at another, it transforms into the cruel reality of past and present.
